The first jewel I remember was not mine. It sat on my mother's hand when I was eight — a ruby so saturated it seemed to carry its own weather. That stone has been with me ever since, in every piece I have made and every brand I have directed.

Before jewelry, there was music. Piano at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. A year at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, studying Orff music and movement — a discipline that treats sound, space, and the body as a single language. That training never left. It simply changed materials. From keys to metal. From rhythm to form. The obsession with precision remained identical.

MICHAELLA SHIN began in 2010 with the Genesis collection — a meditation on the sacred order of light and water. Since then, the studio has moved across cities and markets: department store floors in Seoul, a runway of our own, buyer meetings in Abu Dhabi, trade floors in New York, editorial pages in Shanghai, live broadcasts in Hangzhou. Connecting Korean designers to Sichuan. Always returning to Seoul.

The work has always been the same underneath: taking something invisible — a memory, a conviction, a client's quiet hope — and giving it a form that will still hold its meaning twenty years from now. Whether that form is a ring or a brand, the obsession is identical.
